A team sport with an oval ball in which 13 players carry it across the field to the opponents' try line. Fast, physical and tactical — with a clear set of six tackles in attack. Here's everything you need to know before your first training.
Seven in the backs and six forwards — plus up to four substitutes on the bench. Thirteen players, hence the name: rugby 13 (rugby league).
Forty minutes each. The goal is to score more points than the opponent by carrying and kicking the ball to the goal.
It's passed only by hand, backward or sideways. You advance by running forward — that's why teamwork is everything.
You ground the ball behind the opponents' try line. The most valuable play in the game.
A kick between the posts after a try — a bonus on top of the try scored.
After an opponent's foul, a set kick at goal from the spot of the offence.
A kick from open play when the ball bounces off the ground — often decides tight matches.
What makes rugby league special: the attacking team has exactly six tackles to advance. You use them or you hand over the ball — that's why every tackle is precious, and the game fast and clear.
Five times you keep the play going after a tackle. If you're tackled a sixth time, the ball goes to the opponent — no scrums over every ball.
After a tackle you get up and roll the ball back with your foot to a teammate. That's how play restarts quickly — without pile-ups and stoppages.
On the last tackle teams often kick the ball deep, so the opponent has to start from their own half. The game flows in clear sets — attack, then defence.
Rugby league is the one sport where every build is welcome — thirteen jerseys (1–13), thirteen different roles. Each position calls for different qualities.
Numbers 8–13: props, hooker, second row and lock. The heart of contact — if you love the physical game and being the team's backbone, this is for you.
Stand-off (6) and scrum-half (7). The team's brain — you direct the attack and choose when to pass and when to kick. For the tacticians.
Fullback (1), wingers (2 and 5) and centres (3 and 4). The team's sprinters — if you're fast and love charging toward the try line, you'll shine here.
Same sport, two rhythms. Thirteen is the full format, and rugby 9 is its faster, festival sister — perfect for first appearances and getting to know the game.
Two halves of 40 minutes, the set of six tackles, competitive leagues and national teams. Classic rugby league.
Nine players, shorter matches and more space — so more plays, tries and running. Played in tournaments; an ideal entry into the sport and a great school of the game.
Women's rugby league for every woman and girl in Serbia. Sport, sisterhood and a place where every woman has her position.
